Pop-up Stoppers/Ad Blockers

In order for the Mendota website to function properly, you must allow pop-ups to come through on your browser.  You can uninstall the pop-up blocker program if you don’t want it, or you can disable it for our website.  The information below will help you with ways to recognize pop-up stoppers and give you some basic instruction on how to uninstall or disable them.

There are so many different pop-up stoppers we can’t keep track of them all.  Listed below are the three most common third party pop-up blocker toolbars in Internet Explorer.

·         Google Toolbar

·         Yahoo Toolbar

·         Norton Internet Security

To disable these third-party pop-up blocker toolbars:

  1. In Internet Explorer click on the View menu at the top of the browser window
  2. Click on Toolbars
  3. Note what items are checked in the Toolbars sub-menu.
  4. If you see any item listed above with a checkmark next to it, the pop-up blocker is enabled
  5. a.       Click on the item to remove the checkmark, disabling the pop-up blocker.

Internet Explorer has a pop-up blocker built in as well.  To disable it:

  1. Click on Tools and go to Pop-Up Blocker
  2. Click Turn Off Pop-up Blocker

It is possible you don’t know you have a pop-up stopper installed on your machine.  A lot of anti-virus or firewall programs automatically enable an ad blocker or pop-up stopper.  You can go into your anti-virus software (from the Start, Programs menu) and look for anything referencing an ad-blocker or pop-up stopper.  From here you can disable it. Certain programs may have the capability of enabling pop-ups for specific websites. This feature would allow our website to function properly, while disabling unwanted pop-ups. Check the pop-up blocker software for documentation.
